Meditect raises its first institutional round with LBO France

After a first round in 2019 with business angels, BPI Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Bordeaux-based startup is closing its first institutional fund-raising with LBO France through its Digital Health 2 fund.

It is from a need in the field that we have identified blockchain as the optimal solution to tackle the safety issues related to the distribution of medicines that need to be addressed.

Meditect receives support from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and Bpifrance to accelerate its research

Having received support from the ecosystem of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (grant Digital Prototyping, support from the Unitec accelerator) since 2017, Meditect is diversifying its funds through aid from the region and Bpifrance Nouvelle-Aquitaine to accelerate its research.

Romain Renard presents the innovative solution developed by Meditect, which enables unit-level medicines’ identification and a better monitoring of their distribution.

EIT Health is one of the “Knowledge and Innovation Communities”, or KICs, around the theme of health, launched and funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in 2015. Each year, the most innovative start-ups are chosen after a selective process to join the EIT network and benefit from the expertise of more than 140 academic and industrial partners across Europe. Meditect is one of the selected French start-ups and thus joined the EIT network.

Meditect and UPSA join forces to fight falsified medicines

The Meditect start-up, specialized in medicine traceability, announces the signing of an agreement with UPSA, marking the first time its solution has been launched on the market. As part of the implementation of a pilot project in Ivory Coast, Meditect will improve the traceability of UPSA medicines. The start-up will thus enable patients and pharmacists to check the authenticity of these medicines thanks to free applications, accessible via smartphone. The deployment of Meditect is initially planned for one of the most widely used medicines in West Africa.

Pharmaceutical Anti-Counterfeiting, Zurich

Meditect participates in the first international trade show dedicated to the fight against medicine counterfeiting. Held in Zurich, this forum brings together hundreds of specialists of the fight against counterfeiting from various fields (industrial, academic, institutional). Meditect is presented by Romain Renard in a plenary session.

Meditect wins the 'Blockchain Innovation Challenge'

Despite very strong competition, the social impact of the project was convincing, and the first prize was awarded to Meditect to support its development. The entire team is very proud of this recognition, especially Romain Renard, co-founder of Meditect and Sciences Po alumni.

Created in 2002, the “Alliance Programme” is an academic partnership between Columbia University and three prestigious French institutions: University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, École Polytechnique and Sciences Po Paris. Its objective is to foster exchanges between these four institutions through numerous initiatives, including the “Blockchain Innovation Challenge”. Meditect had the privilege of representing Sciences Po at the final of the 1st edition of this competition and answered questions from journalists in New York City.

In October 2018, following its active participation in various trade shows, Meditect caught the attention of Spanish media « The Daily Prosper », that produced a video presenting Meditect (in Spanish). The video report portrays the daily life in Côte d’Ivoire and introduces Arnaud Pourredon, co-founder of Meditect, discussing the current problem of falsified medicines in West Africa and explaining how Meditect’s solution aims to fight this scourge and improve public health thanks to blockchain technology.
